All About Dad: ICF's Fathers Day Gift Guide

Don't even think of getting your Dad (aka your personal ATM) anything mundane and "bleh" this Father's Day! The man deserves better, don't you think? Plus, rather you want to admit or not, deep down you know he's a cool guy so why not get him something to let him know just how cool he really is...

We Experienced: DOWNTOWN LA ART WALK

Large Scale Paintings. Photography. Graffiti. Digital Art. Scuplture. These are just a few of the types of art we got to experience while attending the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk. Once again, we were blown away by the amazing talents of the artists showcased.  What is even more interesting about this once a month event, held every second Thursday, is the variety of people you encounter from different walks of life, which is an art form in itself. From all of the walking and gallery hopping you’re sure to get hungry, but with 3 parking lots hosting a plethora of food trucks ranging from Indian to Greek to Lobster and all the in between, hunger is the last thing on your mind. Not to mention the many restaurants, wine shops, street vendors and diners that house the area as well. If you’re in the mood for shopping, they have a section of booths set up with handmade jewelry, clothes and other fun things to purchase. Also, some of the boutiques double as a gallery, such as Crack Gallery and Dialect.  However, the best part of the art walk is…it’s FREE!

Mad about...Hats!

If there’s one way to spice up an outfit and to cover your bad hair day, it’s none other than a hat. Hats have been one of my favorite accessories since I was preschool age. I remember I wore one just about every day, so it’s only natural that the trend stuck with me.
I remember one of my favorite hats when I was little was a Bowler Hat. I wore it with EVERYTHING and I mean everything. It was a popular accessory in the 1980’s that has made a comeback. I like to wear this hat with my more urban/bold print outfits. In the picture, you can see I am wearing a green print and I love how the hat just brings out the green more.

Simple outfit choice: Black leggings, an oversized white shirt, and a black heel/flat.

Book Lust: 10+1 books we're craving!

Image from Apartment Therapy

Irene's Picks:
Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty by Andre Bolton
If there is anything I love more than books, it's big coffee table books with amazing phtography, amazing fashion photography! Judging from the sneak peek on Amazon, this book is filled with the ahh-mazingness that is McQ's creations.

Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy by Mary Tomer
Do I even need to explain why we all should own this book? The Jackie O. of our times, who is modern, chic and know how to work it at each end of the price spectrum without a single fashion mistep. As quoted from the book, "Michelle Obama's personal style has become a remarkle common ground, connecting us in a real and human way..." For that reason alone this is a serious must have.

Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey by (multiple authors)
Although the exhibit is no longer at the Grammy Museum, you can still own a piece of Hip Hop history. Having had the opportunity to see the exhibit and the book, I find myself in dire need of this huge leather bound $300 collection of hip hops greats. Maybe Santa will be good to me at Christmas!

Your Degrees Won't Keep You Warm at Night by Damon Young and Panama Jackson
Ahh yeah! The Fine Educated Uber Talented men of Very Smart Brothas (aka VSB) have turned their succesful blog into a book  filled with great advice tailored to the Buppies, HBC Alumni's and everyone else inbetween who follows.

When the Thrill is Gone by Walter Mosley
Anyone who knows me weel, knows that I am head over heels in love with Walter Mosley's work. I have a serious collectionof his books, so it's a no brainer that I have to own this latest piece.

Courtney's Picks:
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
I've seen the trailer for this movie and it looks like it'll be VERY GOOD, but I would like to read the book as well so I can see where the storyline comes from.

Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin
I recently saw this with the Ladies of my family on Mother's Day and we all really loved the movie.

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Ok being a shopaholic myself, what better way to embrace it than to read a book about it? I know the series has been out for awhile (about 5 books now), but hey, better late than never right?

One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell
I'm a HUGE Candace Bushnell fan! She writes about a city I dream to live in one day, New York. This is like a sexy, female powered version of Melrose Place and I'm excited to see what characters she has in store for us this time.

Audrey Hepburn by Barry Paris
I have been an Audrey Hepburn fan since the first movie I saw with her in it, and that was a very long time ago. So, it's only natural that I HAVE to have a book  that has to do with her. She has always been and always will be my number one idol.

Sephora has done it again!

Sephora isn't just one of our favorite beauty stores, but it's one of the best known beauty stores out there giving their customers an amazing variety of skin care, make-up, fragrances, and more. So when they launched their YouTube Channel, we couldn't help but love them even more.

We Spotted: Courtney's picks for Summer

Seeing Summer

Here's my little collection of what I'm wearing for the upcoming Summer season. I have been very into Gold and Blue. I think it's a beautiful combination and it's very "in" right now. My typical favorite colors to wear are peach/coral and gray, but I love the subtleness of gold & blue and their ability to make a loud statement. Also, what goes better with Summer than a floppy hat and a great straw clutch? I already have mine ready to go,  do you? Oh, and we can't forget a classic oversized ring to go along with a simple gold pendant... Summer is in full swing!
